WhatsApp may soon let you hide the 'Online' green indicator that pops under your name on others' mobile phones every time you open the whatsapp app.


WhatsApp has introduced a no.of privacy-oriented basic changes and interesting features over the recent years. From the ability to disable your read any receipts, or blue ticks in messages, to even hiding your profile picture from particular or all contacts. However, the only aspect of WhatsApp has not changed here for a long time and that is the ‘Online’ green indicator that pops under your name and number on perticular devices every time you open the chat app and use it.

Now, it seems to be WhatsApp is now working on this, and may be in time will introduce a change to the app in the future that  will lets you turn off the ‘Online’ status indicator entirely throughout the app, and letting you open the app whenever people want, without letting your friends, family, collegemate or pretty much anyone finding out.

A new report published by WABetaInfo, which has a good track record of predicting WhatsApp’s upcoming new features , has suggested that the platform is working on a this feature that will let the WhatsApp users control who can see their online status.

WhatsApp will let you choose between any two settings for your ‘Online’ indicator. You will be able to either get it to ‘Everyone’ which will let everyone see you when you’re online (unless they are blocked) and then there is the ‘Same as Last Seen’ option that will show persons ‘Online’ indicator to only those who have permission to see Last Seen indicator.

Depending on how people set ‘Last Seen’ setting, your ‘Online’ status will also be available to more or fewer people in app. For instance, if anyone set your ‘Last Seen’ to ‘Nobody’ and ‘Online’ status to ‘Same as Last Seen’, no one will be able to see both people ‘Last Seen’ and ‘Online’ indicators.
